Grilled Broccoli with Cilantro & Mint Yogurt Sauce

Broccoli florets are tossed in avocado oil, tandoori masala and salt seasoning, charred on grilled or regular iron skillet, and served with creamy, tangy, medium spicy (😉) yogurt sauce.

A versatile cilantro & mint yogurt sauce you’ll want to put on everything (I seriously mean evvvverything). Spoon over grilled veggies, tacos, or dollop it over savory crepes! It’s going to be a game changer for your summer BBQs! It elevates grilled veggies and is so delicious!

In all it’s glory, this recipe is another example of immigrant assimilation food - it is an ode to tikka masala/tandoori flavors from the northern Indian/Pakistani region and green chutney. Broccoli - a cruciferous vegetable that we rarely find in India (or at least used to be rare) is grilled and served green chutney-esque yogurt sauce.

METHOD

  • In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients for GRILLED BROCCOLI. Toss them well and coat the tandoori masala evenly. Use more oil if needed. Let this sit for 10-15 mins.

  • Meanwhile, wash the cilantro bunch and chop off about 2-inch of the ends and retain the stem - cilantro stem carry a lot of flavor! Wash mint, green chilies and add all CILANTRO & MINT YOGURT SAUCE ingredients in a blender and blend until semi-smooth - you want tiny bits of cilantro and mint visible.

  • Prepare the grill or heat iron skillet over medium-high heat, and charr the marinated broccoli florets as deeply as you desire.

Pour generous amounts of the prepped yogurt sauce on a plate and add the grilled broccoli. Alternatively, you can drizzle the yogurt sauce over grilled broccoli! 😊

SUBSTITUTIONS & NOTES

  • You can use cauliflower, bell peppers, zucchini and more veggies in place of broccoli.

  • Shan masalas are available at almost all Indian stores. If you want a spicier version of grilled broccoli, you can use the Chicken Tikka seasoning mix or really anyone from the BBQ seasoning mix range. If you are unable to get your hands on Shan masalas, you can use similar one from other brands. Note that taste may vary and you will need to adjust the amount of green chilies, salt used accordingly.
