Spiced Creamed Corn / Makai no Dano

MAKAI NO DANO / SPICED CREAMED CORN

Sheetal from theroutetoroots ‘s recent trip to Dahod, Gujarat, my dad’s hometown evoked strong nostalgia of my time spend there every Diwali. We got talking about local dishes, and when she asked me to author a blog post on her phenomenal space, I was thrilled to oblige. I wrote about a seasonal dish made from local white corn found only in that region of Gujarat - Makai no Dano // Spiced Creamed Corn 🌽.

My experience researching, talking to my dad, aunts, to dig up history and their memories + stories of their parents, and my great grandparents of cooking, eating sharing Dano was a soul stirring one, and not only for me but for my family too.

After all that, I couldn't not make the dish myself. Last night, I made Dano but with American corn. When it comes to traditional food, my mantra is to work with what is available instead of completely eliminating it from your life :)

I poured my heart and soul into the article to introduce you this dish, shared heirloom recipe from my great grandmother, and brought to tons of context and reasoning around food pair and ingredient pairing choices in the dish.

Give the article a read, loves.
